I should point out that I also have had some very understanding CEs; for
example I recently had a disk (on a development volume set) go south.
 Rather than bring the system (which does run production) down during the
day, and rather than pay the off-hours extra charges and deal with the
headache of getting the CE into a secure area, I simply asked him if it
would be all right if I swapped the mech; he said sure (but then he's known
me for a long time).
 
(Now just don't tell his boss about this!)
