The 7980XC's can still be converted to SCSI. There is an orderable part
number for the conversion kit, although I do not have it handy now as we are
moving to a new office building today. Be careful with regards to the
firmware revision on the SCSI controller for the 7980. There was a release
that was incompatible with MPE/iX (imagine that!). There has been a fix
(firmware update) out for about six months.

Regards,

You're right -- it is a change, and this was part of the original
announcement,
IIRC. That's why we're replacing our HP-IB printers, now (plus, they go off
support next year ...:-( ). Hopefully, we can still convert our
7980XC's
to SCSI -- I haven't checked on that recently.

I was reading in the 6.1 patch "Read Before Installing"
that "the PBA-IB HP-IB A1747A and old CIB I/O based HP 3000
Servers will not be made to work with MPE/iX 6.5 and later
releases."

Hmmmm. "...not be made to work..." Sounds a lot different
than the old:

"Yes, it's unsupported but will still work"

philosophy.
