Hi all,

I asked about the feasibility of using an adapter cable to
connect a SCSI2 DDS drive to our K220's F/W/differential SCSI external
SCSI connector.

Thanks to Richard, Bob, Larry, Steve, and others for answering/suggesting.

The answers were 50%: no, it won't work, and 50%: maybe.

So, I found a SCSI2 to SCSI3 cable at Fry's ($50 or so), bought it,
tried it, and returned it ... it didn't work (and, it didn't harm the
DDS drive).

I think it was Richard who had the best answer: buy a SCSI2 card for the
machine :)

On another related note,

Further research indicates that the 9000/Kxx F/W SCSI is F/W/differential.
We had wondered, because a couple of HP man pages said a ST15150W (which
is not differential) disk drive would work on it. (BTW, the connector
on the K220 *says* differential.)

It turns out that "ioscan" appears to only report the first 8 characters
of a device type, so people with ST15150WD drives (like HP manual
authors?) who ask ioscan are incorrectly told they have ST15150W drives.
This may have contributed to the original misinformation we received.
