You are making it too complicated. The HP-IB to SCSI upgrade for the
7980 (product 88707S) is $7,000 less a return credit for the HP-IB
board in the tape drive (option 100) of $4,500. The result is a net
list price of $2,500. This provides a supported configuration within
the price range of current tape drives. You will, however, need to
add a SE SCSI adapter to the 969.
