MPE Folks:

Just got back from the HP video conference. While there were some
positive things announced, there were two major disappointments from our
perspective. The first was the fact that (by ommision) HP apparently has
no plans for MPE on the HP/Intel "merced" platform. They will continue
to provide improved PA RISC chipsets, but not move MPE into the real
future. Too bad. The second point was that the MB Foster collaboration
for a 32 bit ODBC driver will not be available till August or so.
Peachy.

Some good things were announced, like support for new peripherals and
better network connectivity. The bottom line seems to be that HP will
continue to support the 3000 with evolutionary enhancements but not
provide the same kind of revolutionay advancements already planned
and marketed for the 9000 series. Marketing droids like myself call
this "milking the cash cow". I can't blame them, I suppose, for I'd
rather that they cannibalize one product line for the sake of the
company than to turn inward and become another Apple.
