Ahhh Yess.... SADUTIL.... so named because you were sad when you had to use
it's utilities ....hehehe
But... those 7933?? ... the one major difference no one has mentioned is
the noise they made when it crashed! .... now a days a drive has a head
crash and everyone just makes wind chimes out of it... oh... that would be
me! hehehe But back in '84 when we lost one at NNC... the 5 or six people
in the room had to be peeled off the ceiling!!! and then they stared at
the horrible noise coming out of it!!! Talk about noise!
And yep... cost us about $1,000 to get a new disc pack and get HP to
put it in... ie replace the heads we lost :( :(
The funny thing is HP Boise (where the disc pack was) insisted that the
pack be shipped to us via San Fransico!!!! we were in Nampa Idaho! 20
miles away from Boise!! I think our CE finally brought us the disc pack
while an empty box was shipped via Frisco :) hehehe
Art "remember when he saved his Assembler Class Final Project from a
Crashed system with SADUTIL" Bahrs
Yep - spent a week with SLEUTH one day, with an HPRC Engineer on the phone.
Also, how many times had SADUTIL pulled someone's butt out of the wringer?
(SADUTIL - StandAlone Diagnostic Utility - ya booted in in from tape, and
you could do the neatest things with it - like back up files on specific
drives because one was down and had white powder all over the place... hey,
80% was better than nothing :)
Best Regards,
Joe
