There was going to be an "Oak Pine", but their parents forbid them from
dating, then finally, the oak family moved away, and they didn't stay in
touch.

Quite a tragic story, but it could have been worse. This could have been
Romeo and Juliet with leaves and needles!

Add to these the California scrub oak, and, I believe, the California
coastal oak. (BTW, didn't you mean "pine oak" rather than "pin oak"?
(which leads to the obvious question: If there's a "pine oak", then is
there an "oak pine"?) )
