I guess one reason the current instruction manual seems pretty good to
me is I had the dubious pleasure of working with an early draft of it
when I was writing a series of articles on 5.5. I had an early release
of the OS that I tried to install using this "beta" manual. Talk about
exciting!

During one of my late night/early morning dialogs with the RC, I
suggested that a good QC approach for the manual would be to include
performing each check list as part of the training for all new RC
engineers. I think the suggestion needs to be made again since clearly
the manual needs updating. Perhaps in time for 6.0?

Also, while I like the various ideas of having a program or web site
that can produce a customized checklist and step-by-step instructions,
it would be just my luck that either my machine or the web-site would be
unavailable just when I needed something: like disaster strikes and you
now need the re-install checklist! So, I still want a paper manual for
reference/backup.

Donna makes me feel a little sheepish about my rant (although
I do not repent): I've only got *one* machine and she's got 75:

> incorrectly did on page 5-16 <sigh>

...... not *quite* an exact repeat: On the page 5-16 version
they forgot the ";DEV=1" on the INFO string..... I believe the
AUTOINST file set which this is supposed to RESTORE only
feels "at home" on LDEV 1...... sigh*2.....
