On Thu, 7 Aug 1997 10:41:25 -0700, Michael A. Dobies asked:
|I've got a Quantum 4700 Library connected to a NT Server. Does anyone
|know if it is possible to use this hardware to backup the data on my HP3000?

While I don't have an easy answer for the NT server part of the question, I
have tested an Andataco 4700 (which has a Quantum 4000 mechanism in it) with
the MPE 5.0 patches supporting DLT drives and they worked with RoadRunner
(and HP's :STORE, in the few tests I ran with it). I certified the drive
for use with RoadRunner/MPE.

P.S. The DLT support released as part of MPE 5.5 PP1 has several quirks
(IMO) which do not appear in the MPE 5.0 patches released to add DLT
support. I theorize that this is due to revisions made to the driver
between its initial release for MPE 5.5 and the later release for MPE
5.0. I look forward to testing a later release of the patch on 5.5 to
confirm whether these improvements are carried over to 5.5 and future
releases. One of these quirks on 5.5 PP1 is a restriction which makes
the DLT4700 not work on my 5.5 system, although a DLT4000 does.
