I recently talked to a sys mgr at a mfg company here locally who was
running AMAPS on an HP3000 from 1988 to 1995. They're running a different
mfg package (I don't know what) on a 9000. He told me "we've spent more
money in the last six months (they had to upgrade to a bigger 9000, again)
than we did the whole time we ran the 3000... including the 3000 puchase
price!!". He didn't feel the H/W-S/W gave the company anything they
couldn't get from the old system.
Anyway, maybe a way for John Shick (his post started this thread) to answer
the boss' question regarding relative performance is to ask IBM to quote a
price on a system to do the job their 3000 is doing today..... X number of
transactions, Y number of users, Z amount of IOs, etc. etc.
He might also ask about comparable "uptime & reliability" stats :-)
