Did I understand you to mean that HP-UX 11 vs 10 is short these 29
subroutines??? If so I'd like to retract my comment about "poor planning..."
instead I'd like to substitute "grossly stupid non-planning...". I suspect
that this involves renaming or substituting new subroutines for the 'old'
ones.

In any OS world where a set of subroutines exist in one version but not
another and there is no transition release, it's impossible to write code
that will work with both versions. The intelligent way to eliminate/rename
subroutines is to announce that they will be phased out in the future and
give everyone at least a couple of releases to get their code changed over to
new subroutines. Otherwise you are forced into an application software
upgrade/change at exactly the same time you do a OS upgrade. NOT a smart way
to do things.
