I am not sure what Gavin is referring to when he says he misses real disk
drives. I don't miss the 7933 or the 7925. Consider this, my laptop has a
4GB IBM disk drive in it. I am looking at an 8GB IBM disk drive in the 2.5
inch form factor.

The 7933 had a capacity of 404MB. It would require 10 of those to equal
the capacity of the one in my notebook. It would certainly put a damper on
the mobility of my notebook, and I don't believe the battery would last
more than a fraction of a second. I wonder what kind of dirty looks I
would get from fellow passengers when I unpacked my laptop and the
corresponding chain of 7933 disk drives :). Also 10 7933s represented about
$80k. My 4 GB cost $500.

It would require 32 of the 7925 disk drives to match my 4.0 GB drive. That
would have been about $160,000.

Finally, performing the PM on those drives involved changing filters and
messing with the heads. That would be a lot of filters to change.

No, I don't miss these disk drives.

Kind regards,

Denys. . .

This also sounds silly considering how far up, down, around, and past
multiple seals anything would have to travel to get to a disk surface
from the seam around the top door of a 793x. I miss "real" disk drives
(or disc drives).

That's what we have Denys for.
