In that vein, I've considered documenting a procedure to guarantee safety
from boot sector viruses on Win9x/ME, so long as no one then changes this
configuration.

Basically, it's a simple matter of:
1) Boot to a command prompt
2) run FDISK
3) delete the primary partition
4) exit FDISK

Remarkably, one can then type Win to run Windows, and continue running, with
the confidence that one is now safe from boot sector viruses. Well, one can
keep running, until the next reboot. Unfortunately, conscience will not
allow me to do something, even in jest, which has the potential to be taken
seriously by someone, to their own detriment. Equally unfortunate is that
conscience does little for the temptation to do so.

See??? Truth to M$'s claims that XP will not crash as much!

"If it the software don't load, you can't crash the XP code!"

I bought the upgrade from WIN98.

First I took a winNT PC and loaded win98 on it.

XP told me it found the box had once had NT on the PC and would not load.
In addition it reported my HP printer, NIC card and several other software
products would not work with XP. Same problem I had with WIN2000, no
drivers.

It did not load and therefore did not crash. I guess I need to reformat the
disc drive.

Sorry for the waste of bandwidth.
