With mpex we used to send a command like devcontrol 8;online to remotely
turn a tape drive online . Don't know whetgher mpex can send similar
commands to switch tapes.

Giles,
Once we have loaded the first tape, we don't touch the drive until we
need to unload a tape from it. From then on its an autoloader - we fill
it for long weekends, Easter etc and away we go. The obvious advantage
is unattended scheduled backups all work, and if a tape is faulty, its
unloaded and backup moves on to next tape, and doesn't get hung for lack
of a tape.

Regards,

John Pitman

I've tried that, but unable to coax the drive to go online.

The only way I can put the drive online is by pressing various
buttons on the front panel of the unit.

Kinda makes the "autoloader" part of this unit pretty useless.

I'm thinking there must be a dip switch setting that needs to be
changed.
