networked HP256x problems

Since converting a HP256x serial printer to a networked printer via
parallel IF/JetDirectEX, I've noticed sporadic problems with bar codes not
being scannable and some carriage control anomolies. I've searched the
archives and found hundreds of similar postings but none specifically
addressing my problem. Did I lose some functionality in the conversion? Is
there a way to correct this? Maybe an NPCONFIG setup file?
