Just a quick follow-up to all who replied. The user is using some sed and
some tr to get where he needs to go with this. He is still trying some other
things, but this got him moving forward. Thanks very much to all who replied
with suggestions. It is much appreciated.

By the way, GNU sed on MPE/iX also does not seem
to handle the [\x7F-\xFE] subrange notation, as far
