I think a good solution is to use a real logfile.

Create the logfile manually:

BUILD BACKLOG;DISC=100;REC=-80,,F,ASCII

and write one ore more lines to the logfile in your job:

!FILE XXX=BACKLOG,OLD;ACC=APPEND
!ECHO Backupjob: !HPJOBNAME   Start: !HPDATE  !HPTIME > *XXX
...
...

You have to reorganize (PURGE) your logfile manually, but you can see
datas since your last reorganization.
