I worked as a consultant for many years, and I've indeed noticed that
many of the male programmers in the offices where I worked were less than
optimal in their grooming habits. Once, such an individual happened to
mention that he couldn't smell paint being applied in the office
reception area because he "doesn't have a sense of smell." It was all I
could do to keep from laughing. Another individual, again unnamed to
protect the guilty, needed to be told where to find a laundromat.
The female employees (all considerably older than him, including
myself) actually had to take up a collection to buy him some clothes so
that he wouldn't wear the same things all the time. Normally, we don't
notice what the men here are wearing, unless it's always the same piece
of clothing for too many days...
