tell if this is a 3000 problem or a Reflections issue, but each time I
attempt a transfer (using Binary), each record is preceeded by one strange
character and moved over one space. I built my HP file as:

I get an error "Unable to transfer file... Cannot read file - transfer
aborted. Record longer than 32767 bytes". I do not get an error transferring
as Binary, but the file isn't correct because it is an ASCII file. Is there
a Reflections setting I am missing or an build parameter on the HP side?

First off, if you Build a file, then Reflection (sic) will purge it on the
transfer. Did you mean

FILE w2input;rec=-512,,F,ASCII;DISC=10000

Secondly, how do you know it is an ASCII file? (I'm sure you do, but not
knowing where it came from, it's hard to see).

Thirdly, transferring from where? A PC?

Having a strange character and being moved over one space is usually a sign
of CCTL being misinterpreted as NOCCTL, so the normally hidden carriage
control character emerges to be part of the file. Did you get the 'ASCII'
file off of an HP3000 in the first place?

Can you tell us a bit more about what is going on? Then we could probably
help more...
