I am desperate, please help.

I recently brought my printer back home (I had been using it at work).
I tried to print something for the first time today, (labels) and
they came out very light - sort of as if I had chosen "outline" from
the "Font" menu on Word. I figured that my cartridge was empty, so I
purchased another one. I put it in, and tried to print the same
document, with identical results. I have gone into "Properties" under
the printer, and changed the settings from the middle, to "Dark" with
no change. (I've had this printer since '95, and have never had this
problem before. Prior to my taking it to work, it did not get all
that much use, and before I brought it home from work, it was working
just fine).

I have printed other test pages, random e-mails and old Word documents
with the same results. My HP manual is of no help. I'm absolutely
sick that I just shelled out almost $100 for a new cartridge, that I
cannot return now. (I am on temporary medical disability leave from
my job, and have very limited income this month).

Can anyone out there take pity upon me and suggest what MIGHT be the
problem?

I'm losing my mind!

Thanks so much in advance.

Please reply to my e-mail in addition to replying to the group.
Thanks.

-Ginny
