We just went though an upgrade from an old 70 series to a 969! We were told
that the C/iX compiler would ship with the 5.0 MPE/iX POSIX Developer's kit.
This was confirmed in the 5.0 communicator. However the C/iX compiler did not
come with the Developer's kit. So we downloaded the GNU C compiler from jazz.
The GNU C compiler was not exactly what we expected, calling intrinsics was
rather painful. We finally did get the C/iX compiler and it seems to work
great. However HP has confirmed that it does not come with the POSIX
Developer's kit for 5.5

With MPE/iX Release 5.5, the MPE/iX Developer's Kit is bundled for all users
of the HP 3000. It comes with the core operating system. However, POSIX C/iX,
HP product number HP31506, must be purchased to compile POSIX.1 source.
Previously the MPE/iX Developer's Kit was a no charge upgrade for those who
had purchased the C/iX compiler, but the product had to be ordered
separately.

Yes c89 depends on the C/iX compiler.
