Thanks! The hardest part for me was figuring out the string functions
necessary to determine whether the node given is a name or address. I
finally realized that, even though node *names* can also have a '.' in
them, they will never be completely numeric before the first '.'; at least
they shouldn't be.
Thanks too for the tip about Quit, but while I'm at it I think I'll
rewrite it to incorporate Greg Stigers' tip:

Now *that's* cool! So instead of all that redirection, I can just do:
NETTOOL.NET.SYS 'ping;size !pktsize;number !packets;ping !node;quit'
