Last night I was reading the latest issue of Maximum PC. In this issue,
they compare technologies for performance. For example, they benchmarked
SCSI vs IDE, parallel ATA vs SATA and Intel vs AMD vs Mac.

That last one was entitled "Who makes the fastest dual-CPU platform- Intel,
AMD or Apple?" They took the best machine from Apple, a Mac G4 with dual
processors running OS X 10.2 They built 2 machines one with twin Intel
Pentium IV procs, and the other with twin AMD Athlon procs. Both of these
machines ran Windows XP Pro with SP1.

The results: "We came to one conclusion very quickly after reviewing the
numbers. Mac people who scream that their Apples are faster than PCs are
simply so full of crap, they should double as septic tanks."

BTW, the fastest was the Intel Xeon.
