The main reason I ported Syslog/iX to MPE was so that my subsequent ports of
BIND/iX and Sendmail/iX would have someplace to log their error and status
messages to.

But Syslog/iX can also be handy for monitoring your JetDirect printers if
your spooling software doesn't already do that (like MPE network spooling
doesn't).  Just configure the IP address of your 3000 running Syslog/iX in
the "syslog server" part of your JetDirect's configuration.  Then you'll see
status messages like paper out and online/offline etc on your 3000's
console.
