Bill,
if your Unix system is running Java, you could pick up a small
FakeLP.java source code from the HP3000-L archives (as far as I
recall, other people also contributed Perl and C versions). The
fairly little socket program listens to a TCP port similar to
what a network printer does. You could then configure a dummy
LDEV on the 3000 to have the MPE spooler send the spoolfiles to
the FakeLP program on your Unix machine. The advantage of this
approach is that the MPE spooler converts the CCTL (carriage
control) bytes to PCL just like it does for regular printers;
moreover, you have the Unix transfer in the same step.
