Perhaps home premium has "everything needed" -
but I suppose that depends on whose needs.

At least two features missing from home premium that are in w7pro:

1. support for Microsoft Virtual PC and its
included Windows XP Mode (although, I must say
when I was using w7 home premium a while back, I
was able to download and install Virtual PC and XP Mode).

2. built-in backup, including automatic backup
scheduling and disc imaging, which is obviously
available in 3rd-party products, but works very well in w7pro.

And up to now, I've preferred build to buy -
although I'm beginning to question that after
recently experiencing the issue with the
SandyBridge motherboard glitch that involved more
of a runaround on my part to get resolved than
probably would have been the case if had
purchased the PC from a Dell or HP or such. I had
to deal directly with the m/b provider, ASUS, which was a bit more complicated.

And the low pricing of PC's these days make the
build option less attractive - although fun,
educational, and a worthwhile experience.
