I would visit www.pcpowerandcooling.com and see if there is a fan or set
of fans that could replace the existing ones. I suspect the fans in the
a class are standard size, perhaps 80 or 120mm fans or something like
that and could be replaced easily.

I will do a little more checking.

Denys

Good points. I'm afraid I can't do a comparison, because I haven't
used air conditioning in Sun Valley since 1988 -- I just crack the
window open to let some crisp mountain air in (or close it altogether
in the middle of a blizzard :-)

That was my original thought when Cinderella (the first machine)
arrived a few days ago. Sadly, Cenicienta (the second machine) was
not any quieter. Given the fact that both were (perhaps) produced
in the same manufacturing run, your theory makes a lot of sense.
We didn't want to call HP's support organization before knowing
more about the ecosystem's decibels, but we will call HP tomorrow.

Excellent questions. Perhaps, in the process, some internal
turbulence developed and the new fan noise is the unfortunate result.

Quietly going into bed now,
