VA7100 question

I have a VA7100 array that I'm going to be hooking up to an HP9000
system (*gasp*).

It currently has 12 18GB drives, but I need more space. Could I add
some 36GB drives in the 3 empty drive slots with no ill effects or
loss of usable space?

Last, does anyone have a reference manual for the built-in command
interface (via serial port?) I need to get this configured BEFORE I
hook it up to my HP-UX system, since it will ultimately be the boot
device.
