On a visit to NASA last year, it was brought to my attention that the
Kennedy Space Center exist right smack in the middle of the Merrit Island
Wildlife Refuge. At the KSC, there are radioactive materials, rocket
launches, an airport and thousands of tourists bussed in each and every day.
The Merrit Island Wildlife Refuge is roughly the size of area 1002 of the
ANWR. I am amazed that in such a hostile environment how many endangered
species actually thrive there.
