I did the same sort of thing last fall.  I shut down our old 987, moved the
cable connected to the dedicated LAN for DTC's to the LANIC on the new 997
(where the NMCONF had been copied over from the 987 and slightly tweaked),
rebooted, and then used termdsm to force down the config/reset for each DTC.
Worked like a charm for our remote DTC's and I didn't need to power-cycle.
