Hi all,

I got a notice in the mail today that Southwest Airlines is pulling out
its "Quicket" ticket machines. These machines were located at ticket
counters and near gates, and dispensed standard-fare tickets paid for by
credit card, a transaction that usually took less than 30 seconds. Since
I am often to be found dashing into an airport with little more than 30
seconds to spare, I found these quite convenient and I'll be sorry to see
them go.

However, the interesting part is the apparent reason for Southwest's
decision. In noting that the machines will be pulled from all but four
locations next month and in the last for locations in October, they also
stated that "credit cards used in Quicket machines must have an
expiration date on or before December, 1999."
