GEN. MYERS: No, I don’t think it is fair. I think from the very beginning,
and anybody that’s listened to anything that I’ve had to say or other
senior military officers, to include General Franks or the secretary,
nobody ever promised a short war. We thought it’d be sort of uneven. We
thought it would not be linear; that there would be some parts that would
go quicker than other parts. I think the toughest part is ahead of us as we
start to engage the Republican Guard divisions that are arrayed around
Baghdad. But nobody should have any illusions that this is going to be a
quick and easy victory. This is going to be a tough war, a tough slog yet,
and no responsible official I know has ever said anything different once
this war has started.
