I don't remember what we paid for it--It seems like it was $3,500, but that was eight years ago.

You might call a reseller / VAR.

We use Cerius Technology. 
They quote us new stuff, including software for the HP 3000.
Usually they get back within a day or two for the quote.

They are at http://www.cerius.com/ and they are a Masterlevel VAR. Nice folks, very reasonable. Know their stuff.

Has anyone recently purchased the 'C' compiler for the 3000 and remember the
cost(s)?

It can be a bit frustrating at times trying to get 3000 related product info
out of HP.
