On the subject of adaptive infrastructures, this will make you smile.

We were booked to do some live demonstrations at an HP site two weeks
ago. The opening presentations of the day was by HP on the adaptive
enterprise. For the live demonstrations we needed Internet access to an
external HP3000 and HP9000 as well as Internet Access.

So a few days before hand I phone to check that there were suitable coms
lined up, with only 24 hours to go it was appearing obvious that nobody
was going to be able to poke a telnet hole through at this site. So with
the promise of a phone line, we rapidly re-worked everything to utilise
a slow dial up connection.

Come the day, we turn up and find that the entire phone system in the
place is VOIP and whilst we were welcome to use a phone line there isn't
a way to get a simple phone line that we could hook a modem up to.

Now that's an adaptive infrastructure, that promotes a collaborative
approach to working with customers and suppliers :-)

Needless to say following on from the Adaptive Enterprise session there
were a few wry smiles from the Audiance as due to lack of simple
technology we fell back to plan c and showed a canned demo.
