Cliff, from your description it is obvious that you are using CfMC
Survent software for telephone interviewing.  As you appear to know by
now, Survent requires fixed logical device numbers for each terminal.

The best approach is to ensure that when the programmer's terminals get
replaced with PC's that each gets to keep the RS-232 line into the DTC.
The PC will require a different type of cable, one with a 9 pin
connector instead of the big 25 pin connector used by the terminal. Your
hardware supplier should be able to deal with this.

There should be two copies of Reflection created.  One which is
configured for network access for development, and a second one which is
configured for serial access (COM1 at 19200 baud).  Start this second
Reflection before testing since as you know Survent will take control of
it.

Most likely you have a support contract with CfMC, and they should be
able to help you configure everything just right.
