Back in the late 80's HP did try to replace the HP3000 with the "open
system terminology".  Here in AZ when they did that the market shifted
away from the HP3000 to other devices.  This effectively killed the
market here in the "valley of the sun".  3000 shops started drying up.
The HP3000 may not have turned to ashes, but it came very close.
