"Is this something that HP2RTF could be used for ?"

Maybe. When you refer to replacing CR's, I assume you mean replacing the
carriage-control codes used in the MPE world, where single spacing is done
not by the line-feed char, but by codes like %32 (the space char) which I see
in $stdlists, or %201, which is what my Cobol apps generate. There are
actually a ton of ways to single-space.

HP2RTF currently converts SOME of these codes to their rich-text format
equivalent. The ones that my cobol apps never generate are currently treated
as single-space (which is often correct, btw). I am considering enhancing it,
which was by point of my recent post on possible hp2rtf enhancements. Without
looking at the Vesoft output, I don't know how close that would be. Also,
hp2rtf currently assumes pre-spacing -- if vesoft postspaces, any double or
triple-space codes that it recognizes, would result in the extra blank lines
in the wrong place.

Then ftp or email hp2rtf's output to a pc and you have a .rtf file, which
might be good enough. If they insist on txt, you can open it in a word
processor and save as text format.

For the more ambitious, an HP2TXT converter would be a trivial mod for anyone
who has HP2RTF. Just convert all "\par" to cr/lf pairs and drop the extra
space after the final \par. Repeat for "\page" and form-feeds. Drop the
special handling for rtf special characters, \, { & }. Debug, etc.

Something urgent just came up. Gotto go.
