I am probably publicly confessing total math ignorance but--  If the
center of the field is at (0,0) and the center of the arc formed by the
tether is at (R,0)... doesn't r (len of tether) have to be greater than R
(radius of field)??  And doesn't r have to be less than the length of a chord
drawn from (R,0) to (0,R)??  And if so, then the above answer cannot be
correct...
