Maybe it stood for "Way"  and since it was created by both Hewlett and
Packard they inserted the 'W' between their names.

Now the symbol MUST be changed because the hp-way no longer exists!

Why was HWP chosen for HP's ticker symbol anyway?  What was the W for?
