This is not a special cable. If in a panic, you can drive down to your local
CompUSA and buy a cable. SCSI cables and connectors come in a variety of sizes
and shapes. In your case, what you are probably looking for is a 1 or 2 meter
long cable with SCSI-2 50 pin male connectors at both ends. The F/W cables
will have 68 pin connectors. The cables are not single ended or differential,
the devices are, so do not look for the words Single Ended or Differential on
the cables. Only in the HP 3000 universe do we talk about SE VS F/W. It
should be SE VS Differential or Fast SCSI VS Fast/Wide SCSI.

You can also have cables that have 50 pins on one side and 68 pins on the other
side. They are used to connect F/W devices to Fast controllers. You can also
have SCSI-I connectors (the big clunky ones that hurt when you drop them on
your foot.)

So check the connectors on your system and device. If they can be easily
mistaken for an RS-232 port, they are 50 pin Micro-D connectors. If they are
wider but still narrow, they are 68 pin Micro-D. If they look like big
Centronics connectors, they are SCSI-I connectors.

Quality is all important when dealing with SCSI cables. I recommend Granite
Digital www.scsipro.com or Paralan www.paralan.com. At CompUSA you will pay
$30-50 for a cable. Look for Belkin. Get the most expensive. At Granite or
Paralan, you will pay the same or more. Again let me reiterate, quality is all
important. You can waste an inordinate amount of time troubleshooting a
system with a low quality cable. Believe you me.

Kind regards,

Subject: Need Cable

Hello,

I seem to have lost a SCSI cable when moving to our new offices. I need to
get a cable that goes from the HP3000 917 to a HP6000 SCSI SE minitower. It
only needs to be a short cable, the minitower will be right next to the
HP3000 917.

Can anyone quote me a price for this kind of cable? I think it is a K2296?

TIA
