Thanks Chuck. Mathew Purdue answered a post I made to the
comp.sys.hp.mpe newsgroup with a lot of helpful links as well. I've
put Jon Dierick's book on my Safari bookshelf and have been reading it
as quickly as I can.

And I have been reading the messages as they go by on the list. I'm
starting to get a bit of a handle on things (like I figured out the
only tape device we have is on LDEV 7, which aparently is some well
known place for it) and I'm hoping all will go smoothly with my backup
tomorrow.

One of my challenges is I don't have physical access to this machine
or its console, so when I do kickoff the back, I don't really know how
I am going to be able to tell it's done. (Another program we have is
actually going to start it). Might there be a way via either
processes or jobs that I can tell when it's done? Where might I look
for errors if they occur?

Thanks,
Patrick
