While GZip offers compression, it does not inherently provide for archiving,
that is putting multiple files into one. Then you need something like tar.
Given that both these programs would need to create files on MPE, then it
becomes necessary that they 'remember' MPE attributes (File format, record
size, user labels) which neither does. Being able to recreate
subdirectories up to the GROUP and ACCOUNT level would be handy too.
They can probably be modified to suit, but why bother if MOVER or LZW can do
the job just as well.
