Eddy Beliveau writes about printing OCR-A to LaserJet ][s and ///s,
saying they won't accept font cartridges.  I don't know where he
got that information, but all the ones _we_ have do; even the 'P'
series printers accept one cartridge.  The trick is, it's located
on the right side of the printer, near the top, instead of below
the paper tray.  If you want to print OCR-A, get the Barcodes and
More font cartridge (the same one mentioned here previously for
bar code printing).  Then all you have to do is send the appropriate
escape sequences to generate the OCR characters.
