RE: Cloning drives, et al:

Once upon a time we had an Eagle drive that had a minor head crash. The
damaged portion of the disc happened to be a critical location that
MPE needed to write at mount time. Since the write wouldn't work or
couldn't be verified with a follow-up read, we were sunk.

I had a spare Eagle on the floor (a day later it would have been shipped)
off to a reseller). So we wired it up, went into volutil, and did a copyvol.
This performs a disc clone for idential drives. We swapped LDEV numbers
in SYSGEN, rebooted, and everything came back to life.

[ from the volutil on-line help = notice that this wouldn't work for MPEXL
volume set drives, unless someone knows how to put an active system drive
in an UNKNOWN state and still run volutil from it :-> ]

volutil: help copyvol

Description:

The COPYVOL command makes a bitwise copy of the contents of the source
volume on the destination volume. The source volume must be mounted in
the LONER, SCRATCH, or UNKNOWN state and the destination volume must be
mounted in the SCRATCH or UNKNOWN state as displayed by the :DSTAT
 command.

Syntax:

 volutil: COPYVOL [FROM=]from_ldev [TO=]to_ldev

Example:

 volutil: COPYVOL 15 16

volutil:
