I'd dare say Perl can probably help you in your porting
efforts from MPE to Unix.

For instance, if you require an MPE logon in the form of:

SESSION,USER.ACCT (some may just be USER.ACCT)

And you compile a list of users in an ascii file. You
could import the ascii file to the unix box where a Perl
script would be lying in wait to pounce on it and modify
the text string SESSION,USER.ACCTG into a more
Unix like logon.

I can't offer you details, because you'd have to decide just
how the string would be modified, but suffice it to say that
Perls string manipulation ability can be used to help out in
creating the users you'll need on your Unix box.

I've used Perl on MPE with great success to move accounts
from One MPE box to another (as far as user information,
not DB's). I'm sure it can handle an MPE to Unix port for
this type of info.

Your Perl knowledge is 110% transferable to Unix. ;-)

That is greater than 100% because Perl has slightly better compatibility
with
true Unix OSes than it does with POSIX-compliant non-Unix OSes like MPE.
