oh my .... Gavin you are correct! 20 years..... wow..

dialing again, the controls of the way back machine......

there was a great program called Phantasm that Gavin had that would trick hp
basic out!
sure made my life easier!

remember... I did allot in basic, it was actually my language of choice and
continuous use... and the ONLY language I could use on the HP 2000 Access
system Thus, when we moved to the HP 3000, I would modify programs in
other languages and recompiled them gaining enough knowledge to get my self
in further trouble!

As a young kid did some FORTRAN in the really dark ages, in the 60's

Our systems were unique as they were NEVER under HP maintance. I found I
could usually fix a series III in about the same amount of time it took to
explain the problem to HP and log the call. Those that remember my stash
there remember the stacks of HP boards. It was cool, I had extender
boards and schematics so I could even repair boards, build new devices to
plug into the bus ( more so in the hp 2000 days than the 3000)

The wonder of all wonders was when the last series III was off maintence
here in Arizona, the HP service office gave me the full blown plug in
front panel that the CE could lug to your site ( not to be confused with
the little front panel that was attached to the series III) This big panel
would plug into the series III or a series II or a series I (I think never
tried this option, there was another board included that was used for this
I believe)

What was fun was you could single step the HP 3000 and see all information
displayed. It was indeed hell on the users that might be logged on when
you went into single step mode though.....

we have this front panel at the museum but alas do not have a 3000 to hook
it to. still on the lookout for a series 2 or a series 3 hp3000.

When we went to running the 40 series hp 3000 it was boring really from
the hardware standpoint... no , the neat front panel would not interface to
it, peekaboo did not work on the ports... sigh an era was over.
