Well, you may use the "magic script" feature of smb.conf or simply
configure a "dummy samba printer" with a custom "print command",
if you need a way to trigger some HP 3000 processing from Samba
client side.
The dummy printer, for example, would receive some file from the
Samba client (your Linux box) and then process it with a custom
shell script configured via "print command" in smb.conf, AFAIR.
The "magic script" feature has always been marked "experimental".
