While I tend to go on about the trivial, most of it nonetheless excites me.
In this general category of "who cares?", the Space Telescope Science
Institute just released an hour ago nothing less than a spectacular image of
Mars taken from the orbiting Hubble space telescope. The image is at:

Percival Lowell and Clyde Tombaugh would have loved to have seen this
picture. And if they had, H.G. Wells would have never written his "War of the
Worlds," simply because the "canals" everyone imagined are clearly not there.
