I do a lot of work with the US Navy and they have had many problems when
using the Windows 95 stack. For users who must connect to the HP 3000's,
they have settled on using 3000 Connect as it works well. Unfortunately, it
is also expensive.

The most stable Windows 95 systems they have are those that DO NOT use any
form of Windows 95 networking. They had all sorts of problems with the
Windows 95 dialer, so now even the dialer used is the WRQ dialer.

They use the 3000 Connect stack with Reflection 1, Netscape 2.0 and 3.0
Gold, a few FTP packages (including WRQ's), the WRQ FTP server, Finger
server, HTTP server, and Novell. Reflection 1 is used to connect to the
3000's via VT-MGR and to the 9000's, Suns, routers, etc. via Telnet.

Some of the users have on-desk modems and are simultaneously connected to
the intranet via the PC's NIC and to the internet via a dial connection to
an ISP. The WRQ networking accomodates this without problem, with
dial-on-demand starting a dial ISP session when an IP address outside of the
networks reachable via their intranet is requested. The only problem they
have had is when there is a DNS conflict between what the intranet name
server returns and what the ISP's name server returns. With some Navy web
sites only available via the intranet and others only reachable via the
intranet, being able to follow a like on an intranet page to an internet
page (without rebooting or making configuration changes) is very nice.

One thing we most definately discovered. You CANNOT mix pieces of Windows
95 networking with pieces of 3000 Connect or Trumpet or the NetManage stack,
or... you get the point. Pick one stack that does everything you need for
it to do and use it and only it (unless you like crashing PCs and really
strange network problems).
