It was pointed out that I was incorrect about the support of 60 meter tapes in
a DDS-3 drive. I was indeed incorrect. DDS-3 can read to and write from a 60
meter tape, provided the MRS requirements are met (either it is disabled on the
drive or the tape is MRS.)

I got confused because I have been doing quite a bit of research on DDS-4. I
posted a message about this last week, and in it there was this paragraph which
I reproduce here.

Backward compatibility.
The DDS-4 tape will only get the capacity and the rates detailed above using
DDS-4 150 meter tapes. A DDS-4 drive will be able to read and write on DDS-3
125 meter tapes and DDS-2 120 meter tapes. It will only be able to read, not
write on DDS-1 90 meter tapes. DDS 60 meter tapes cannot be read from or
written to by a DDS-4 drive.

The last sentence is very important.

I apologize for my confusion. Thankfully, there were other people to pick up
on my error.

Kind regards,

Denys. . .

Denis and Art Frank tell me that you can't write to a 60 m DDS-1 in a DDS-3
drive. OK, that answers the question, now why can't this be mentioned in the
User Guide? Geez...

Thanks for all the replies. I should give up on the ESC and stick to this
forum ;-)

Cheers all,
